Honor the Victims of Martial Law — Expose and Fight Bureaucrat Capitalism Led by Marcos-Duterte Political Dynasties!

The horrors of Martial Law under Ferdinand Marcos Sr. must never be forgotten. The Martial Law declaration on Sept. 21, 1972 was the official start when the Filipino people were robbed not only of their freedoms but also of their future, Marcos-style. Billions were plundered, voices silenced, and lives destroyed—all in the name of “order” and development.” Today, we see history repeat itself under the rule of both Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte through the corruption that continues today. What was true then remains true today: bureaucrat capitalism, foreign domination, and elite dominance ensure that corruption is not an exception but the very foundation of governance. Politicians turn public office into private business—profiting through plunder, political favors, and kickbacks from overpriced infrastructure projects. Under Marcos Jr., corruption has only worsened: anomalous flood control schemes are smuggled into the budget, “unprogrammed appropriations” are bloated, and billions are siphoned into confidential funds. At the same time, he shields himself and his allies—including the Dutertes—from accountability, even as evidence of plunder and misuse of public resources continues to mount.

If the president were truly sincere, he could begin with the simplest measures: lift bank secrecy, compel the public release of SALNs, and demand transparency from politicians and contractors alike—steps that would immediately reveal the truth. Instead, he chooses to protect the corrupt while denying the people the reforms they urgently need: progressive taxation, adequate funding for social services, investment in local production, and a people-centered path to national development.
This corruption is no different from the Marcos dictatorship’s plunder, nor from Duterte’s Pharmally scam, NTF-ELCAC (National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict ) fund misuse, and the sham drug war that enriched the corrupt while killing the poor. In the last election, they aptly cast themselves as eagle and tiger—predators of the people, feasting on our wealth and dragging the nation deeper into poverty, corruption, and impunity.
To remember Martial Law is to confront its dark living legacy in today’s corruption and repression. To forget is to give the Marcoses and Dutertes a free hand to extend the cycle of plunder and tyranny.
Migrante Alberta stands with the deep anger and outrage of our families, friends, and fellow Filipinos who suffer daily under poverty, inadequate social support, and recurring disasters. Time and again, communities are abandoned to fend for themselves in the face of typhoons and floods—while bureaucrat capitalists shamelessly parade their stolen wealth across social media.
We call on all migrants, workers, and the broader Filipino community to mark the Martial Law anniversary not with silence, but with defiance: by raising our voices, uniting in condemnation, and holding the Marcos and Duterte dynasties accountable for their corruption and crimes against the people.
Let us strengthen the people against unjust policies! Fight for justice and national democracy!

Never Again to Martial Law!
Marcos-Duterte, Walang Pinagiba!
Burukrata Kapitalismo, Ibagsak!
